Quick Updates are fast entry forms that let you log real-world events without digging through long detail screens.
Use Quick Updates to:
- Update odometer readings (vehicles)
- Log service / expense (fuel, service, parts, other)
- Log fluid observations (vehicles)
- Log tire pressures (vehicles)
#Where to find Quick Updates
You can open Quick Updates from a few places:
- From Vehicles & Gear: long-press an item card → choose the action you want
- From Garage Details: open an item’s ⋮ menu → choose what you want to log
- From Asset Details: use the shortcuts/cards for readings and related actions
If you don’t see Quick Updates, you may have viewer (read-only) access for that item’s garage.
#Before you start (common patterns)
#Time and timestamps
- You’ll usually pick a time in your device’s local timezone.
- GearOS stores the event as a precise moment in time and will display it back in your local time.
#Optional odometer field
Many Quick Updates include an optional odometer field. If you enter it, it helps MaintenanceFreak:
- Build better maintenance schedules
- Interpret fuel/expense and service history more accurately
#Update Odometer (vehicles)
Use this when you have a new odometer reading.
- Open Quick Actions for a vehicle (long-press the card)
- Choose Update Odometer
- Enter the reading
- Confirm the timestamp if shown
- Tap Save
#Log service / expense
Use this when you spend money on the vehicle or gear item (fuel, service, parts, etc).
- Open Quick Actions
- Choose Log service / expense
- Select the category:
- Fuel
- Service
- Parts
- Other
- Fill in the form
- Tap the save button for that mode (for example, “Save fuel log”)
#Fuel
Typical fields:
- Fuel type
- Amount paid
- Quantity + unit
- Unit cost (optional; may autofill)
- Location (optional)
- Notes (optional)
#Service
Typical fields:
- Amount paid
- Category/summary fields (as prompted)
- Location (optional)
- Notes (optional)
#Parts
Parts logging is more detailed because it can track:
- Which parts were used
- Quantities, packaging, and cost
- Leftover handling (when applicable)
If the form asks what to do with leftovers, you may be able to:
- Put remainder into garage inventory (only when the asset is assigned to a garage that supports it)
- Mark remainder as discarded
#Other
Use this for expenses that don’t fit the other buckets (fees, parking, tolls, etc).
#Log fluid observation (vehicles)
Use this to record a fluid level check (oil, coolant, etc).
- Open Quick Actions
- Choose Log fluid levels / Log fluid observation
- Select the fluid type
- Select the observation level (Empty → Full)
- (Optional) Record quantity added + unit
- Tap Save
#Log tire pressures (vehicles)
Use this to record tire pressures for one or more tires.
- Open Quick Actions
- Choose Log tire pressures
- Enter the readings requested (front/rear, or individual tires depending on the form)
- Tap Save
#After you save
You should see a confirmation toast like:
- “Odometer updated”
- “Saved fuel log”
- “Update succeeded”
Your logged entries may surface in:
- Monitoring charts (if enabled)
- Asset history/summary views
- Task planning and reminders
