#What you can do on this page

#Overview + identity

You’ll typically see a summary of the asset:

  • Year / Make / Model (when available)
  • Nickname (if set)
  • Identifier (VIN/Tail number/HIN/MFID, depending on type)

#Update nickname

If you have edit permission, you can update the nickname from within the details view. Nicknames help items stand out in lists.

#Garage assignment

This section shows whether the item is assigned to a garage.

  • If assigned, you’ll see which garage it belongs to.
  • If not assigned, you’ll see a prompt to assign it.

#Assign or change the garage

  1. Tap Assign garage (or Change garage)
  2. Choose a garage from the list
  3. Confirm

If you don’t have any garages you can edit, you may be prompted to create one.

#Quick actions: Tasks + Documents + Readings

Asset Details includes shortcuts that jump you into the two most common workflows:

  • Documents: opens Documents scoped to your current navigation mode
  • Tasks: opens the maintenance board

See:

#Common “at-a-glance” strip (documents + tasks)

Some builds show a compact strip summarizing:

  • Document compliance (expiring/expired)
  • Task health (overdue/open)

Use the buttons in this strip to jump directly to Documents or Tasks for this item.

#Update odometer (vehicles)

For vehicles, you can update the odometer directly from Asset Details.

  1. Tap the odometer update action
  2. Enter the new reading (and timestamp when prompted)
  3. Save

See: Quick Updates

  • Add photos
  • Set a primary photo
  • Delete photos

#Identifier tools (VIN/Tail number, etc)

For some vehicle types, Asset Details includes tools to keep identifier-based metadata fresh.

Examples:

  • Refresh VIN-decoded metadata (automobiles)
  • Update VIN manually
  • Scan VIN with the camera (when available)

If scanning is blocked, enable camera permission in system settings and try again.

#Retire or transfer ownership

If you have permission, you may see Retire or transfer ownership.

This is used when:

  • You no longer track this asset (retire), or
  • You want to transfer it to someone else (ownership transfer), or
  • You need to permanently remove it (delete)

#Transfer (share with someone else)

  1. Choose Transfer
  2. The app generates a transfer token (often shown as a QR code)
  3. Share it with the recipient
  4. The recipient uses Accept Transfer (scanner) to import it

See: Accept Transfer

After transfer is accepted, the recipient may need to assign the new item to a garage before creating tasks.

#Retire (stop tracking without deleting)

  1. Choose Retire
  2. Provide a reason/notes if prompted
  3. Confirm

#Delete (permanent)

  1. Choose Delete
  2. Confirm the deletion prompt

#Permissions (important)

If you have viewer access in the asset’s garage, you may be able to see everything but not edit.

When you don’t have permission:

  • Quick actions may be disabled
  • You may see informational messages indicating read-only access
